Saint-Jérôme, October 24, 2025 –
Dr. Éric Goyer, Director of Public Health for the Laurentian region, encourages you to get vaccinated against the flu to help protect non only yourself but also your loved ones and those you are in contact with. Vaccination clinics will begin on November 1st, 2016 in the Laurentian region.
“Annual vaccination remains the best way to prevent the flu, especially for vulnerable people in whom the flu could result in serious complications, including death,” states Dr. Goyer. Indeed, the flu is responsible for one thousand deaths per year in Québec.
Vaccination is available free to the following people:
• Children from 6 to 23 months old;
• People with chronic diseases;
• Pregnant women with certain chronic conditions, throughout their pregnancy;
• Pregnant women in good health in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters of their pregnancy;
• Individuals aged 60 and over.
In order to minimize the risk of contamination, the vaccine is also available free to other people:
• People surrounding those already mentioned, including their caregivers;
• Families of children under 6 months old;
• Healthcare workers
To locate a flu vaccination clinic near you, visit the website of the CISSS des Laurentides at: www.santelaurentides.gouv.qc.ca [or see the PDF list below]
The flu vaccine is safe and effective. Some experience sensitivity at the vaccination point and, in rare cases, mild fever and muscle aches the day after vaccination. As Dr. Goyer reminds us, “these inconveniences are very mild compared to the severe symptoms plaguing a person who has the flu, which last several days.”
Procedures to receive vaccination vary from one region to another. Some institutions require an appointment (rendez-vous), whereas others do not (sans rendez-vous).
